Japanese mezzo-soprano NANAKO KATO has a career that includes opera, oratorio and concert work.

This vibrant artist recently performed Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, L'enfant in Ravel’s L'enfant et les sortilèges with International Master's Academy of Opera and Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro with New York Opera Theater.  Other performances include Lyubica in Ana Sokolovic’s Svadba (New York premiere), Dritte Knaben in Die Zauberflöte, and Dorabella in Così fan tutte.  Additionally, she performed as Nicklausse in Les contes d'Hoffmann at New York's Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and was a featured solo recitalist on the VAMS Virtual Online Recital Series.

In her native Japan, Ms. Kato has been alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah, as well as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and his Choral Fantasy, as well as Vivaldi’s Gloria.

Ms. Kato was a semifinalist in the Classical Emerging Professional Division of the Classical Singer (CS) Vocal Competition in Chicago, and recipient of "The Excellent New Singer Award" at the 64th Tokyo International Association of Artists Young Artist Competition. 


She received the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from the Tokyo University of Arts.  Ms. Kato also holds an Artist Diploma from the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College, and the Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes School of Music (College of Performing Arts, The New School).
