Mezzo-soprano

COURTNEY FLETCHER is a highly acclaimed performer and teacher, recognized for her "smooth" and "seamless" voice and "riveting onstage presence."  Fletcher has traveled domestically and internationally for various operatic roles and performances, establishing herself as a sought-after performer and teacher in the industry.  She is the 2024 Irma Cooper Third Place Winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Artist Awards. 

 

Some performance highlights include Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena with Winter Opera St. Louis, Soloist in Handel's Messiah with Tactus Chamber Orchestra and Vocal Ensemble,  Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with New West Symphony,  Dorabella in Così fan tutte  with Opera Memphis, and traveling to Prague, Czech Republic, where she appeared with Prague’s National Theatre Orchestra.

 

Fletcher's operatic roles span all musical eras and also include Laurene Powell Jobs in The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, Lazuli in L'Étoile, Angelina in La Cenerentola, Bertarido in Rodelinda, Paula in Florencia en el Amazonas, and Jade Boucher in Dead Man Walking.  She is an avid supporter of newly composed music and has has sung in premieres and workshops by Grammy Award-winning composers Terence Blanchard and Tobias Picker, Robert Patterson, Shulamit Ran, and Matthew Recio. 

 

A Gerdine Young Artist at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Fletcher has received several awards, including the NOA Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition (Artistic Division Winner), the Houston Saengerbund (Third Prize), and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (now Laffont Competition) as a two-time District Winner.

Her concert work includes Roberto Sierra's I Am Carmen Miranda  with Oberlin Conservatory’s New Music Ensemble,  Mozart's Requiem, John Corigliano's Fern Hill , Vaughan Williams' Serenade to Music,  Handel's Alexander’s Feast , and Bernard Rands' Folk Songs.  

 

An experienced voice teacher who has taught various genres including classical, musical theater, jazz, pop, and folk, Fletcher has worked as an Applied Faculty member at Rhodes College, where she taught voice, music theory, and directed opera, and was selected as one of the twelve young teachers from the United States and Canada to participate in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Intern Program.  She earned her Doctor of Music in Voice degree with a minor in Music Theory from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where she studied under Mary Ann Hart.  Currently, she works as an Assistant Professor of Voice, teaching voice, diction, and opera scenes at the University of Kansas.
