Tenor

Tenor JOEL EDWARDS makes his Boston Lyric Opera debut this season as Ghost Tenor in Omar, and sings Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos with Berlin Opera Academy.  Mr. Edwards recently starred in a New England premiere of Nick Benavides’ Pepito with Opera del West and made his company debut with TUNDI Productions as the principal cover of Siegmund in in Die Walküre.  He recently sang Florestan in Fidelio with Promenade Opera Project and made his Opera North debut in Rothstein’s All is Calm in December.  The Boston-based artist completed an MM and GPD in opera performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College.

 

Most recent roles include the title in Rameau’s Daphnis et Egle, Ein Soldat in Viktor Ullman’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, all with Connecticut Lyric Opera.  The tenor also frequently performs with Odyssey Opera in Boston, most recently making his role debut as Judge 2/Le Officier in Saint Saens' Henry VIII.  He performed the title role in Candide and Jake in Second Nature (in an East Coast premiere) with Opera del West.

 

Other notable role debuts:  Don Jose in Carmen with Opera Halifax, the title role in Les contes d'Hoffmann and Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore with Longy Opera Theater.  Mr. Edwards worked as a festival artist with Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater and sang the roles of Nelson and Crabman in Porgy & Bess, Noodler in Peter Pan, along with covering the role of Luigi in Il Tabarro.
